The Bar Mitzvah service, drawing inspiration from the significance of where it is taking place, and the magnificent view, is held in one of the sites atop Mount Masada. The service stresses the marriage of past and present in a place that has become part of the mythology of bravery and the fight for freedom.
Touring the site of Masada following the Bar Mitzvah Service is an exceptional experience. We will see the synagogue and the Mikvah built by the Jewish rebels who lived there, and we will discuss the struggle and the final dramatic choice taken by the defenders of Masada at the end of the Second Temple Period; freedom by death over captivity and the life of a Roman slave.
