The Golan Heights is a strategically located, beautiful plateau on the mountain range straddling Jordan and Syria.
In these Golan Heights at Hamat Gader, we will splash in the hot springs, resplendent with an original Roman bath house. We will also visit Gamla, an ancient Jewish town that took part in the revolt against the Romans, and is home to an ancient synagogue and a nature reserve for the local eagle population as well.
Our trip will also include Katzrin, the Talmudic center of the Golan.
We will discuss the strategic military significance of the Golan Heights while we overlook the Sea of Galilee.
We will visit Mount Bental from where we will also see the Syrian city of Quneitra. We will be given a presentation on the skirmishes in the Bekaa Valley during the Yom Kippur war (1973) and on the battles on Mount Hermon during both the Six Day war and the Yom Kippur war.
We will travel along the river canyons of the Golan Heights and enjoy their waterfalls and natural pools; the Zavitan and Mashoshim, and we will enjoy the summer fruit harvests and some of the excellent wines produced in this region.
In the summer on Mount Hermon we can take the ski lift up. On the walk down we'll see plants and vegetation that are unique to high altitudes. And if it's the winter, we can ski down.
